What is a facelift?

A facelift is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to rejuvenate and enhance the appearance of your face and neck. It aims to counteract the effects of aging, gravity, and other factors contributing to sagging skin and facial tissue.

If you’re considering a facelift, consult with Dr. Barnes. He can help you understand its purpose, the issues it can address, the procedure itself, and what to expect during recovery.

What issues can a facelift address?

A facelift can address a range of concerns related to facial aging, such as:

  • Sagging skin on your cheeks
  • Excess skin on your jawline
  • Deep skin folds around your mouth or on the sides of your nose
  • Sagging skin in your neck area

A facelift is particularly effective at tightening and smoothing loose skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, and restoring youthful contours to your face and neck.  This procedure is a great option to regain a more youthful appearance and improve self-confidence.

What is a facelift procedure like?

The facelift procedure involves several steps. Typically performed under anesthesia, Dr. Barnes makes incisions in inconspicuous areas around your ears and hairline.

Through these incisions, he lifts and repositions the underlying facial muscles and tissues, tightening them to create a more youthful and lifted look. Excess skin is removed, and the remaining skin is draped back over the rejuvenated contours.

The incisions are then closed with stitches or other closure methods.

What can I expect during recovery from my facelift procedure?

Individual recovery experiences can vary. While most people can return to their regular activities within a few weeks, complete healing and the final results may take a few months.

During the recovery period following your facelift procedure, you can expect some swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Dr. Barnes provides post-operative instructions on how to care for the incisions, manage pain, and minimize swelling.

You might need to keep your head elevated, avoid strenuous activities, and follow a specific skin care regimen to promote healing. Swelling and bruising usually subside within a few weeks, and you’ll gradually start seeing the final results of your facelift as your skin settles into its new position.
